QHotels, Company Clothing Industry Awards 2006, Best Managed Boutique Contract, couture uniforms, Hotel Uniforms, bespoke uniforms, corporate image, wear group was an integral part of the branding process. The uniform designs were to encompass the values of Q Hotels - innovation, luxury and investment in employees.
The Brief
  • To create a very distinctive look at a cost-effective price
  • To run a long-term, responsive uniform programme to service the group's ongoing requirements
  • To give staff pride in their appearance
  • The outfits had to reflect the company ethos
  • Uniforms needed to complement the newly refurbished interiors of the diverse properties
Management and staff were to be involved at every stage to ensure garments were not only exquisitely designed but also fit-for-purpose, durable, comfortable and welcomed by staff.
Design Considerations
  • Traditional tailored English look. Modern yet classic
  • The Queens Hotel has many art deco elements, these were to be incorporated into fabrics
  • The design had to reflect brand values as well as corporate colour schemes
  • Uniforms had to be timeless, smart and businesslike
Research and Trials
Following extensive research at each of the existing hotels, sample prototypes were created. A full wearer trial was conducted with each uniform from each department being trialled in at least two different hotels. Trials attracted very positive feedback. All responses concerning both operation and style issues were examined in detail and various modifications were made to the final designs.
Fabric Development
With fabrics sourced from as close as Bradford and as far afield as Japan, 13 fabrics were woven or dyed specifically to meet the high technical standards necessary of the operational requirements of the project.. Bespoke designs in Food & Beverage departments incorporated both art deco elements and the corporate logo.
Staff Measuring
Practising the company’s customary attention to detail, Fashionizer staff initially measured employees at each hotel to establish sizing standards and size range in the first instance. All staff were then measured and fitted as the uniforms were issued.
Garment Highlights
Reception staff and management wear grey Herringbone with aubergine pinstripe suits in 100% wool with easy-care lilac camisoles and 100% cotton lilac shirts and silver and aubergine chequered ties for men.

Food & Beverage uniforms are available in two colourways - red and orange or gold and beige. Banqueting staff wear black oriental style jackets with collar and cuffs in mustard made from a washable poly/cotton.

Housekeeping supervisors are wearing loose fitting grey Herringbone trouser suit with aubergine pinstripes. The jacket contains an additional leather insert protection for carrying keys.
Stock Management
Fashionizer has worked with QHotels to set up a dedicated central stock room, where each garment can be monitored by a unique number label. The stock room staff control the number of garments in stock and order accordingly. Fashionizer keeps stock of all of the fabrics that make up the collection and makes garments on demand. Fashionizer also travel to assess made to measures where necessary.
Results
Initial roll-out began in September 2005 for the first 5 hotels with a further 4 hotels being completed in 2006. Uniform roll-out is ongoing to QHotels’ 13 new properties in 2007.
