L’Oscar takes an historic Arts and Crafts building – a former Baptist church – and transforms it into an opulent and distinctive hotel in the heart of London. Acclaimed French architect and interior designer Jacques Garcia has stayed true to the heritage of the building, marrying existing features with a modern approach. The result is sumptuous, seductive – and individual. Fashionizer was invited to create a full bespoke uniform programme for the hotel’s opening.
L’Oscar is a unique hotel proposition and it needed innovative uniforms to match. With couture fashion as a start point, elegance and style were essential. At the same time, l’oscar wanted to redefine the role of the uniform; instead of a classic, hierarchical approach to garments, the staff can choose from a range of ‘looks’.
Each member of staff is provided with a collection of outfits or ‘looks’, which are both individual and complementary. They can then choose which combination to wear on any given day.
Women can select from a range of garments that can be combined to create a variety of looks. The collection includes skater skirts, slim trousers, fitted jackets, blouses and elegantly draped dresses. The ‘looks’ for the male staff include tailored jackets, waistcoats and shirts with slim-fit black trousers.
Rich, tactile silks and velvets key into the glamorous designs and the sensory appeal of the hotel. Bespoke fabrics were designed exclusively for the project, and also included satins, jacquards and chiffons in deep hues of purple, aubergine, bordeaux, gold and copper. Accessories were designed and made to order: silk twist gold and copper leather belts, silver oval cufflinks complement the detail of the interior, while the hotel’s motif, a single feather, is reprised in pins. The originality and uniqueness of the property extends to the housekeeping garments of fashionable yet practical jumpsuits, another innovative approach.
‘’The winner for Best Managed Boutique Contract has designed a luxurious uniform collection made from unconventional fabrics including silk and velvet. Fashionizer for L’Oscar hotel stands out from the crowd.’’

“Stunning, stunning, stunning! Fashionizer understood our brief perfectly. They were able to translate our complex and unusual needs into chic and fashionable uniform designs. We are delighted with the individual looks and how they complement each other to create an overall concept. The uniforms are strong when they stand alone and look particularly striking when a group of staff is standing together. Our staff also love the idea of flexibility with their uniform choices.
“We are so pleased to have worked with Fashionizer and they were very professional at all stages of the process and acted as consultants and advisers rather than just suppliers.”
